The vigil took place as her funeral got underway at 1 pm at St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast.
Several hundred people gathered in silence to remember the 29-year-old journalist.
Lyra was shot dead while observing rioting last Thursday night in Derry’s Creggan estate.
A masked gunman opened fire on an armoured police landrover and a bullet struck the author and writer in the head.
She tragically died in Altnagelvin Hospital after being rushed there in the back of a police landrover.

Following her funeral service, Lyra was laid to rest in Carnmoney cemetery in Co Antrim.
