VOLUNTEERS from Foyle Search and Rescue were diverted from a training exercise on the River Foyle to a real life emergency incident last night.
FSR say the alarm was raised around 7.30 om on Tuesday evening by the PSNI.
One person was given medical treatment at the scene before being transferred to Altnagelvin Hospital for further assessment.
The voluntary group said on its Facebook page: “FSR’s pager team conducting an exercise scenario on the river were tasked by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to an incident involving a member of the public.
“An Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency First Responders with FSR were diverted from the exercise and on arrival, administered medical treatment to the person.
“FSR volunteers then assisted NIAS personnel in transferring the patient to an ambulance where they were removed to the hospital.
“After which, the pager team returned to the training exercise.
“Appreciation to PSNI, CCTV, NIAS and our Emergency First Responders.”
Well done to all involved.
