SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood congraulates Mayor John Boyle on retaining his seat

SINN Fein has received another crush blow after losing a further council seat in Derry.

Veteran republican Kevin Campbell was the latest party member to fail to get re-elected to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Patricia Logue and Tina Burke finally secured two seats for Sinn Fein but it was Irish language spokesman Campbell who lost out to veteran trade unionist Eamonn McCann who on on the People Before Profit ticket.

Independent councillor Gary Donnelly was first elected to The Moor after topping the poll with 1,374, surpassing the quota of 1,292.

Also getting re-elected was sitting SDLP councillor and Mayor of Derry and Strabane John Boyle.

However, hopes of bringing running mate Cathy Breslin were dashed as he only polled 669 first preference votes.
