Hundreds of people set off on Saturday morning from Writer’s Square in Belfast near to St Anne’s Cathedral where a memorial service was held for the 29-year-old journalist.
She was shot dead by dissident republican terror group the ‘New IRA’ on Thursday, April 18 while observing rioting in Creggan.
The walk has this morning left Dungiven around 8 am and is now heading to the city of Derry.
A massive crowd is expected to join along the route to show solidarity with the walkers and Lyra’s family and friends.
A police spokesperson says: “There will be minor traffic disruption as we help to ensure the walkers get safely to Guildhall Square at roughly 4 pm.
“We ask for your patience if travelling on the Glenshane Road throughout the day.”
