The £500,000 investment as part of the Urban Villages Initiative, overseen by the Executive Office, will see façade improvements of commercial and residential buildings.
Cllr Boyle said: “I am delighted that this substantial investment in the Abercorn Road area of the city, is now underway after experiencing a short delay earlier in the year.
“It is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
“Residents and businesses along the Abercorn Road have been looking forward to these improvements, with the hopes of revitalising this long-neglected area and helping unlock its potential.
“I am pleased to see those promises now being delivered.
“The ongoing façade improvements will present a welcoming and vibrant first impression to visitors passing through one of the city’s main gateways, not to mention providing a lift for those living and working in the area.
“This project was made possible through a close working partnership of the Council and Executive Office through the Urban Village Initiative, City Centre Initiative and Triax Neighbourhood Partnership Board.
“All involved must be commended for their efforts in delivering this much needed revitalisation of the Abercorn Road.
“I look forward to seeing the end result,” added the former Mayor of Derry and Strabane.
