The corporation’s plans has been widely criticised by pensioner charities.
John Martin, regional secretary of the NPC’s Northern Ireland branch, said: “It’s not for the BBC to means-test the citizens of this country, it’s a dubious act and where is it going to end?
“Winter fuel allowance and the bus pass? We can’t afford to lose any of these benefits because we are on a fixed income. We can’t earn overtime or get bonuses.
“It will have a huge impact because pensioners will have to find money from elsewhere to pay for a licence.
“There are pensioners who live out in the country on their own and have no way of communicating and their only way of getting information is through the TV.
“The Tory government are attacking the least able people, us coffin dodgers.”
