SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion is seeking discussions with the Department of Health to press the case for improved financial support for people affected by the ‘harrowing’ contaminated blood scandal.
Along with Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Pat Sheehan MLA, the Foyle MP has requested an urgent meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health on this issue.
Elisha McCallion said: “An inquiry is ongoing in to the contaminated blood scandal – one of the worst medical injustices of all time.
“At least 2,400 people have died in the north and in Britain from health complications resulting from contaminated blood given to those with existing blood-related illnesses.
“I have spoken to many constituents affected by this scandal, including many who have lost friends, family and loved ones through contamination.
“I have requested an urgent meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health to discuss the public inquiry and financial support for those affected.
“I will continue to work with those affected by the contaminated blood scandal to ensure they receive the truth, justice and support they deserve.”
