SDLP Mark H Durkan has welcomed plans to improve pedestrian safety on the Duncreggan Road.
Said the Foyle MLA: “I am pleased that Transport NI have agreed to install dropped kerbs on the Duncreggan Road; making the area safer and more accessible for all pedestrians.
“It has been brought to my attention that the footpath at the layby entrance to the former Foyle College site on the Duncreggan Road, is proving difficult for wheelchair users and those pushing prams.
“In attempts to bypass this problematic section of pathway, users filter onto this extremely busy road and often risk their safety in the process.
“Considering this route is used by students and residents travelling to nearby shopping facilities and businesses, accessibility for all-abled pedestrians should be paramount.
“Dropped kerbs are a necessity in this area- no doubt it will be welcome news for many, that they will now be implemented in the coming months.
“Additionally, I would ask that the public bring similar issues to my attention.
“It is vitally important that this city is inclusive of all needs, where all citizens can navigate the city landscape safely and with ease,” added Mr Durkan.
