SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has said the international community needs to do more to support Palestinian women who are suffering under Israeli oppression.
The Foyle MP said: “I met today in Westminster with a group of Jordanian parliamentarians and political activists to discuss ways the international community can support the people of Palestine.
“In particular, they expressed grave concern about the impact of Israeli oppression on Palestinian women and children.
“Women in Palestine, and particularly those in Gaza, are being denied basic rights and are suffering disproportionately as a result of Israeli military aggression and the worsening humanitarian crisis.
“Women and children are being held in prisons, often far from their homes, placing huge strains on their families.
“There is a duty on the international community and all those who care about the rights of women to stand up for the rights of women in Palestine.
“Sinn Féin will continue to stand by the people of Palestine and offer them our ongoing solidarity,” she added.
