THERE have been calls for calm in Derry after a loyalist bonfire in an interface area was set alight.
Locals claim up to five youths were spotted at the scene around 11 pm last night.
The Fire and Rescue Service was called in to deal with blaze.
The bonfire at Irish Street in the Waterside area was built ahead of the Relief of Derry celebrations by the Apprentice Boys of Derry on Saturday, August 10.
DUP councillor Graham Warke tweeted: “A bonfire at Irish Street area of the Waterside was set on fire in the early hours of this morning and a local property targeted.
“This is attempt to increase community tensions.
“We appeal for calm.
“Anyone with information please contact police on 101.”
