SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has expressed disappointment at a failure by the Department of Communities to address long waiting times for the Discretionary Support support line.
The Foyle MLA said: “I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are frustrated at the extremely long waiting times when making queries through the Discretionary Support contact line.
“Having contacted the Department for Communities on multiple occasions, I am disappointed to be informed that the average wait time is 20 minutes and by the department’s inaction to address it.
“This is not good enough.
“Rather than give people help and support, this service is only causing more frustration for people.
“I will continue to raise this issue with the Department for Communities and press them on the need to resolve this wait time and to direct resources towards improving customer support.”
