A MAN has been arrested after allegedly throwing a chair at a woman outside a shop in Derry before spitting at two police officers.
Police officers were called to the scene of an incident outside the Centra shop on Waterloo Place after reports that a chair had been thrown at a woman.
During the incident it was alleged that a member of the public was threatened and a young Dutch child at the scene was left distressed by the disturbance.
The male suspect was located nearby and was arrested for assault and public order offences.
He was removed to hospital for assessment and while there spat on two police officers.
He is currently in police custody.
A PSNI officer, posting on PSNI Foyle, said: “Thanks so much to Centra, Waterloo Place, who took the Dutch child inside the store and offered her a complimentary ice cream of her choice.
