A CO Derry further education college is to move sites while its new campus is being built.
Northern Regional College is to relocate from Union Street in Coleraine to the former St Joseph’s College in the town’s Beresford Avenue.
St Joseph’s closed this summer as part of phased restructuring of Catholic post-primary education in Coleraine and Portstewart.
The new purpose-built Coleraine campus is part of an £84 million capital investment programme, funded by the Department for the Economy.
It will be situated on an extended site which includes the former Church of Ireland buildings on Brook Street.
Another new campus will open at Farm Lodge in Ballymena.
Demolition work at Union Street will begin in May next year.
It will take until autumn to complete after which the construction of the new campus building will begin.
Northern Regional College’s principal and chief executive Professor Terri Scott said the projects will significantly benefit the local economy and open up career opportunities for students of all ages.
