PUBLIC health officials have sound a warning after four Derry teenagers “unintentionally overdosed” on the drug Pregabalin or as it known on the streets as ‘Lyrica’.
The four – all 17-year-olds – have been treated in Altnagelvin Hospital in recent days.
Extern West said in a statement this evening:
“We have received the following information about the drug Pregabalin in the Derry area.
“Pregabalin is currently circulating in the Derry area.
“This has resulted in four unintentional overdoses (ODs) requiring hospital admission.
“These four young people (17 year olds) have used it in combination with diazepam.
“However, the Pregabalin is reported to have a signature on the back, 300 mg tablets, which are smaller than the prescribed medicine.
“Apparently there is a delay in effect.”
The advice from public health officials is do not take tablets you have not been prescribed.
