A PERSON is recovering in Altnagelvin Hospital after being rescued from the cold waters of the River Foyle in the early hours of this morning.
Foyle Search and Rescue say on its Facebooke page: “At 04:30 am on Sunday 22nd of September the PSNI tasked our Pager Team to an incident.
“While responding, FSRs Incident Commander was informed by Radio that a person had been observed entering the water at a different location.
“Boat crew responded to scene and with assistance of CCTV located and rescued the person.
“They were then removed to our base at Prehen, treated for cold water shock and transferred to Hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“The initial incident, still being dealt with involved FSR volunteers going off duty who stopped and were supported by Emergency Response Team members diverted to scene.
“Both incidents were resolved with Teams being stood down at 06:10 am.
“Appreciation to PSNI and CCTV for their invaluable assistance and to our off duty volunteers who assisted at both scenes.”
Well done to all involved.
