SINN Fein councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed the installation of a new bus shelter on the Culmore Road.
She said: “I have been liaising with the Council, Translink and Transport NI regarding the need for additional bus shelters for the Culmore area.
“Residents in the area have been in contact with me regarding this, particularly along the Culmore Road near the Foyle Hospice as there isn’t another bus shelter either direction for at least 2 km.
“I am pleased that this week a new shelter has been installed on the Culmore Road.
“Currently there is much discussion regarding the impact of climate change and championing and encouraging people out of their cars to use public transport.
“With the unpredictability of Irish weather, people need to be confident that they will not be exposed to the elements whilst waiting on a bus to either school or work.
“The provision of adequate bus shelters would make a small but important contribution in encouraging people to use public transport and therefore reduce traffic congestion and carbon footfall.”
