DETECTIVES have welcomed the sentencing of two men today after a un was found in Co Derry last year.
Iustinian Pelan, (28), of Seacoast Road, Limavady pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm without a certificate and two counts of possessing ammunition without a certificate, namely 56 adapted 8mm blank calibre cartridges in October last year.
He received a 30 month sentence – half to be spent in custody and half on licence following his release from prison.
Co-accused Florin Lungu (34), of Linenhall Street, Limavady, received an eight month sentence for assisting an offender.
Detectives from Coleraine CID say: “We wanted to highlight the sentencing today of two men in connection with the recovery of a firearm in the town in October 2018.
“A 28 year old man was sentenced to 30 months (half on licence) after pleading guilty to possession of a handgun with no certificate and a 34 year old man received an eight month sentence for assisting an offender.
“We appreciate the concern, especially in smaller communities, around firearm incidents/
“We welcome the sentences handed down by the Judge at Antrim Crown Court today.”
