SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood was joined by family and party activists this afternoon as he submitted his nomination to contest the Westminster election in Foyle.
The Foyle MLA is hoping to wrestle the seat back from Sinn Fein.
Foyle was previously a safe SDLP seat but in 2017 former Sinn Fein Mayor of Derry and Strabane Elisha McCallion won the seat from veteran politician Mark Durkan by just 169 votes.
The other candidates contesting the seat are: Rachel Ferguson (Alliance Party); Shaun Harkin (People Before Profit); Dr Anne McCloskey (Aontu), Gary Middlen of the DUP and Sinn Fein’s Elisha McCallion.
Voters go to the polls in Foyle on Thursday, December 12.
