POLICE have recovered a quantity of white powder and a set of digital weighing scales from a RAPID drug bin in Derry.
But the person who disposed of them won’t face any further action as the RAPID scheme is confidential and is also a safe way of disposing of either prescription or illegal drugs.
The RAPID drug bins scheme is an initiative Derry City and Strabane District Council PCSP, the PSNI, the Public Health Agency and the local Drug and Alcohol Coordination Team Connection Services.
PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Today Ballyarnett Npt emptied the RAPID Drugs Bins that are placed within our community.
“Within one of the bins we discovered a set of digital scales and an unknown bag of powder.
“Whether this was a concerned parent, partner or friend or indeed the individual themselves.
“We would like to reassure them that these items will be destroyed and no further action will be taken.
“This being in accordance with the ethos of the scheme.
“Please remember to support and use the RAPID Drugs Bins to reduce unwanted legal and illegal controlled drugs within our community.
“Remove All Prescription And Illegal Drugs.”

8) Tesco’s store at Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre, Lisnagelvin Rd, BT47 6DA.
The council say that a further one is planned for Strathfoyle and will consider “further locations in the Waterside area”.
