A total of 47 patient procedures have been cancelled and the intention is that these 47 patients will be given any slots that become available through cancellation over the next 6 – 8 weeks.
It is also anticipated that there will be greater pressures on urgent and emergency care services, including Emergency Departments.
A spokesperson said on Thursday: “The Trust continues to regularly review the situation.
“As ever our top priority is to ensure and maintain patient safety.
“Given the reduction in staffing levels anticipated, the Western Trust has regrettably taken the decision to cancel some non-emergency services.
“It is intended that clinically urgent appointments and procedures will proceed.
“Affected patients have been contacted directly and all new information will be posted on the Western Trust’s website www.westerntrust.hscni.net and on our social media channels.
“Unless you have been contacted please arrive for your appointment as planned.”
