POLICE in Derry are warning shopkeepers to be on their guard over a six-strong Eastern European crime gang operating in the city.

A police spokesperson said: “Two small local convenience Stores were targeted in the city on Saturday by a group of six Eastern Europeans.

“The five females and one male distracted the shop keeper whilst trying to break in to the staff areas and the till area.

“One happened in the Brandywell area and the other in the Shantallow area.

“We are also hoping to identify the vehicle/s they may have used.

“If you have any information call us on 101 and quote 1604 of 18/01/20.

“They may also target other Stores in the wider area.”
