AFTER a reshuffle of the SDLP’s Assembly and council team, Mark H Durkan has been appointed as the Social Justice spokesperson.
He will also serve on Communities committee at Stormont.
Welcoming his new role, the Foyle MLA said: “I am excited to take on this new role and thank our party leader for his confidence in me. I look forward to following on from the excellent work of my predecessor, Nichola Mallon MLA.”
“The SDLP has a longstanding and proud track record of fighting for social justice for everyone in our community, from our foundation in the civil rights movement.
“We continue that work today as we strive for a fairer society, which respects and embraces diversity.”
“This is a challenging brief which includes issues like homelessness, language and culture, welfare reform and housing.
“However, I know that these are issues that matter greatly and impact acutely on the people of Derry.
“I am looking forward to working with Cllr Paul McCusker, St Patrick’s Soup Kitchen founder and SDLP Homelessness spokesperson, as we seek to ensure a fairer society for all.”
