She has received assurances that measures are in place to ensure minimal disruption to residents and road users.
The Cllr for Ballyarnett said: “Following a meeting with the Department, where I voiced concerns that Culmore Point Road had not been included in works scheduled for Culmore, I am pleased to confirm that the necessary funding to embark upon this work has now been sourced.
“This funding must be spent by the 31st of March and therefore the works to resurface and upgrade footpaths will commence Monday 3rd February.”
Cllr Dobbins added: “Subsequently, I have highlighted concerns that these additional works in conjunction with ongoing works on the main road, could result in a gridlock for commuters and would prove a nightmare for residents living off the Culmore Point Road.
“Road Service has agreed that safety for all road users and workers is paramount and that works will begin at the entrance of Barleyfield development, towards the main Culmore Road.
“This will remain a single lane operation until it reaches the entrance of Mount Vernon; at which point it has been decided- due to the narrowness of this area and in the interest of safety- to close the road to all vehicles, except for residential access.
“It is hoped the timing of this closure will correspond with the closure of schools for mid-term break, allowing for as minimal disruption as possible.”
