Defibrillators donated as police praise work of NW Community First Responders

POLICE in Derry have praised the dedicated volunteers of the North West Community First Responders who selflessly give up their time to help others in emergency call outs.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Everywhere we look in our communities we see examples of people using their gifts and sacrificing their time, money and energy in order to help others around them.

“We recently had the pleasure of meeting members of the ‘North West Community First Responders’ who embody such a description.

“They respond to local emergency calls and provide life saving first aid in those vital minutes before an Ambulance arrives.

“In order to support this indispensable service the PSNI Combined Operational Training Department spearheaded a move to donate 8 Defibrillators to the North West Community First Responders, delivered here by local Neighbourhood Officers.

“This will increase the availability of these life saving machines including in those remote areas where the sheer distance slows Ambulance response times.”
