He was speaking after the council met to agree measures to handle the Coronavirus, SDLP Group Leader Councillor Martin Reilly said,
Said the SDLP council leader: “Decisions taken by the Council are a necessary precaution to help the Council continue to perform our duties during this Coronavirus pandemic.
“Council have taken a range of measures including closing public buildings and cancelling events in order to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus and also allow our Council to continue to provide it’s essential services for as long as possible.”
“Such decisions are not taken lightly and there was unanimous support across the Chamber for sensible approaches that are in the best interest of our citizens and wider northwest.
“These measures will be continually reviewed and I will remain in close contact with the Chief Executive in the days and weeks ahead.
“I would appeal to people to be socially responsible, stop panic buying and look out for the vulnerable and elderly in society who would be badly hit by this virus.”
