The Foyle MP made his appeal after speaking with medical practitioners with concerns about a reduction in those presenting with symptoms of serious conditions during the COVID-19 crisis.
Said Mr Eastwood: “While lockdown continues, it’s important that people with serious conditions go to hospital if their condition deteriorates or they experience severe symptoms.
“I’ve spoken to medical practitioners who have raised concerns that people are remaining at home when they need treatment, compounding their risk of complications and risking their lives.
“I’ve received specific concerns from cardiologists who estimate that they have seen a reduction of up to 70% in patients presenting with symptoms since the start of lockdown.
“I’m appealing to people, if you experience chest pains, shortness of breath, palpitations or blackouts, please seek medical attention through dedicated trust contact lines, out of hours services or in an emergency A&E.”
