Gerald (87( and Margaret Stewart (83) had plans to mark their 60th wedding anniversary with a big family celebration outside their Lisfannon Park home.
But with restrictions still in place to combat the spread of Coronavirus, the couple were forced to cancel.
However, family and friends made sure their landmark day was still special despite the lockdown.
The Stewarts had no idea what was planned when they woke on Saturday.
They were shocked to see their nearest and dearest – including their eight children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and neighbours and friends – gathered outside to wish them well.
“I couldn’t have wished for more as all those closest to me made it a very special day,” says Mrs Stewart, a former factory girl.
“We did have plans for a family celebration but this was better, it just meant so much. It was lovely, so lovely.”
The couple married at Derry’s Long Tower Church in April 1960.
