Said Mr Middleton: “Our airports have seen an unprecedented drop in passenger numbers and footfall.
“During this health emergency, it is important that key routes within the United Kingdom are protected and secured to allow for essential travel.
“The announcement today by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps will maintain the London route via City of Derry Airport alongside funding being provided to support airport services.
“The £5.7 million package will also benefit Belfast City Airport, ensuring lifeline services are maintained.”
