Jonathan Hinkle told BBC Radio Foyle he does not believe social distancing on aircrafts works because it is not economically viable for airlines and because of “recirculated air in cabins”.
“For peace of mind and the well-being of those around you we strongly recommend you wear them, but expecting customers to provide their own is not a good step.
“We have been working away to do that,” Mr Hinkle adds.
The Coronavirus crisis has seen all flights suspended, apart from two London services operating from Belfast City and City of Derry airports.
Mr Hinkle told the programme that Loganair plans to restart its Glasgow route and extend the London service for City of Derry Airport when the government publishes its lockdown exit strategy for air travel later this week.
