Cara Hunter, the SDLP’s mental health spokesperson, says the impact of the pandemic will be felt “for many months and years to come”.
She says she is especially concerned “for the mental health of those who have lost a loved one”.
“The lack of usual support such as family and community outreach are denied to those who have recently lost family or loved ones.
“It causes further pain and trauma,” she says.
Ms Hunter has written to Health Minister Robin Swann requesting that he ensures “mental health and bereavement support services are a priority in relation to funding”.
“We must invest in mental health and bereavement services to be able to support people to get through this,” added the deputy mayor.
