A SENIOR PSNI chief in Derry has warned owners of businesses shut in the Coronavirus lockdown to carry out a security review of their premises.
Businesses and shop premises closed because of COVID-19 are likely targets for thieves looking for hih value items and cash to steal
Supt Gordon McCalmont says while police “continuing to patrol all business premises” there are a number of practical security steps owners should take.
He advises business owners to:
Be mindful of government health advice, conduct regular security checks of your premises
Test and set your alarm and ensure it is fully operational
Ensure internal doors, security gates, bollards and fire exit doors are secure
Remove high value items into secured locations (if practical)
Remove cash from the premises and install signage stating all cash or valuables have been removed.
For free crime prevention advice, people are asked to ring the 101 number and ask to speak to their local crime prevention officer.
