GARDEN centres and recycling centres across the North of Ireland can reopen from next Monday as part of the first steps to ease lockdown, First Minister Arlene Foster has announced this afternoon.
At a press briefing, she expanded on stage one of the process of relaxing restrictions – an “incremental process,” she says.
From next Monday:
Garden centres and nurseries can open doors with appropriate social distance measures
Ministers are also content that household recycling centres can open to the public. Getting there will constitute an appropriate reason for travel
Marriage ceremonies for the terminally ill can take place – where one party may only “have a short time left,” said the First minister.
Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill tells the daily Covid-19 briefing that the changes announced have been considered in detail by the executive.
“They’ve been informed by medical and scientific advice.
“We must remember that the regulations are in place to save lives.
The deputy first minister adds that the “ability to recover from Coronavirus will be a partnership involving every single member of society”.
The Executive is expected to announce further easing of restrictions next Monday as the ‘R’ rate has now come down to around 0.7.
“We recognise the restrictions are draconian and are having a huge impact on peoples lives,” she says.
She says she is “content with the moves and will continuously come back to the public to inform them of what is happening”.
The are “tentative first steps towards recovery” but the “road map will only succeed if everyone stays patient”.
