Conall Patton was appointed Queen’s Counsel at a ceremony at Westminster Hall in London.
The 38-year-old is a member of a well-know Irish speaking family in Derry.
Mr Patton received his primary education at the city’s Irish language school, Bunscoil Cholm Cille.
He was head boy at St Columb’s college where he took first place in three of his GCSE subjects and also in three of his five A levels.
After taking a first in law at Cambridge University, he undertook postgraduate studies at Harvard University in the the United States.
He has also completed diplomas with distinction in French and German.
In London he undertook pupillage at the prestigious chambers of Lord Grabiner QC, specialising in commercial law, before being called to the Bar in 2004.
