CHARITIES have had to adapt in the way they raise money to keep their services going during the Coronavirus pandemic.
And Foyle Search and Rescue, which patrols the River Foyle 365 days of the year from its base at Prehen, is no different in trying to keep its vital services going 24 hours a day.
Their brave work is done on a voluntary basis so donations from the public are important in maintaining and running its array of equipment.
But with street collections not now an option, FSR has turned to virtual ways of raising much needed cash.
FSR says on its Facebook page: “Day 2 guys of our Virtual Bucket Appeal and since we launched this appeal including our day 1 yesterday we have raised £929.50 including gift aid.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared the link to our online fundraising.
“As much as we are missing seeing you all this year and I’m sure you are missing us pull up in our 16 seater bus and come out in force in your streets in our high vis jackets and flying door to door like busy bees.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity of being able to raise the much needed funds for our charity to operate through the virgin money giving website.
“We have included the link below for anyone who would like to donate.
“And again if anyone who is unable o donate online or has been saving up their change throughout the year contact us on 02871 313800.
“Keep an eye out on our page for our next update.”
