Recently, earlier this week FSR revealed that during the Coronavirus pandemic it has seen its funds drop by £50,000 because it can’t raise donations in the normal way because of lockdown.
It even carried out an online Virtual Bucket Appeal which helped to raise over £1,500 to help try and maintain its services.
The brave volunteers of FSR are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year to help anyone who gets into trouble in an around the River Foyle.
But the charity could never have expected to be the recipient of over £16,000 after local Derry man Eoghan Reddan nominated FSR for a special donation in his adopted country of Australia.
FSR says on its Facebook page: “From the other side of the world we received a message to say that we would be receiving a substantial donation.
“Former native of the city Eoghan Reddan moved to Australia and has been there for 4 years now with his partner, working in Bondi.
“Eoghan nominated us for a donation of $30,000 Australian dollars.
“We are delighted to say this has arrived.
“This donation will go along way in our work the preservation of life.
“Thank you Eoghan for the nomination we are so grateful. — feeling blessed.”
