A COMMITTEE on Derry City and Strabane District Council has endorsed plans to try and mitigate projected losses of almost £11 million this financial year.
On Tuesday, a report from council’s chief financial officer highlighted a significant loss of income because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The plans look at how council can re-allocate funds to try and reduce costs.
However, the council said the plan also relies on asking the executive and UK Government for additional funding.
On Tuesday, a four-stage plan was outlined to the Governance and Strategic Planning Committee and it was supported by all members.
It will now go to full council for approval later this month.
The council has already furloughed 200 staff to try and offset the cost of staff wages.
The council anticipates receiving a £2m share of a £24m government package, designed to help all 11 councils here in recover from the pandemic.
It plans to freeze recruitment and save on training, travel, advertising and conferences, as well as reviewing capital projects where work has not yet begun.
