Coronavirus: Traffic management needed at Derry drive thru as McDonald’s reopen

The queue of cars at McDonald’s drive thru in Derry

A temporary traffic plan had to be put in place to cope with the cars flocking to a reopened McDonalds drive-thru in Derry.

The restaurant at Derry’s Crescent Link retail park is one of two in the city to reopen.

The PSNI tweeted: “There is currently a temporary traffic management plan in operation for motorists visiting the reopening of McDonalds at Crescent Link Retail Park in Derry.

“This has resultedg in some delays.

“However, these measures are for everyone’s safety.

“Police will be attending to monitor.”

On the other side of the river Foyle at the Strand Road drive-thru, cars queued bumper to bumper for the return of the Big Mac.

The fast food giant closed all its outlets here more than 10 weeks ago as lockdown restrictions came into force.

Last week McDonald’s announced that it was to reopen this week its drive thru restaurants for vehicles only.

Stores are not open to the public to walk in off the street.

Orders are capped at £25.
