Foyle DUP MLA Gary Middleton

FOYLE DUP MLA Gary Middleton has welcomed the decision in the Assembly to reject the abortion regulations which have been recently imposed on Northern Ireland.

Said Mr Middleton: “The Assembly has now rejected these extreme abortion regulations on the basis of how they discriminate against the unborn, especially those with disabilities.

“Yesterday’s vote in the Assembly is further evidence that the regulations have no democratic legitimacy here in Northern Ireland.

“The regulations imposed by Westminster have led to Northern Ireland having the most liberal abortion regime in Europe.

“The Secretary of State must act now to ensure these regulations are withdrawn.

“I thank the hundreds of individuals who have contacted myself and colleagues to make their strong opposition to the abortion regulations known.

“I would urge all parties to stand up for the unborn,” added the Foyle MLA.
