A DERRY mother has said not being able to have her newly-born twins baptised during lockdown has been a source of “great anxiety”.
Sarah McCourt, said her children, Aidan and Caoimhin, were about 14 weeks now.
Churches have been shut since the middle of March after the outbreak of Coronavirus here.
Only recently have churches across all denominations reopened to the public but only for private prayer.
Church services have not resumed on either side of the border with some churches turning to outdoor venues to hold drive-through services for their congregations.
“In some respects it has been lovely because I have had the time with my kids at home,” Sarah McCourt told BBC Radio Good Morning Ulster programme,
“My husband has been working from home as well, which has been lovely.
“But obviously, with any newborns, you have family and friends there to help you out, so we missed out on all of that for the first 10 to 12 weeks because we weren’t having visitors.”
Mrs McCourt said both she and her husband were “quite active” in their Catholic faith and wanted her children to be part of their “Christian family”.
“For me it has been something I have been really anxious about over the past 14 weeks, because they’re not baptised, because we’re in the middle of a pandemic,” she said.
“If something was to happen to them, you know they’re not baptised and that gives me great anxiety,” she added.
