Said Mr Middleton: “I have received an update today from the Western Trust regarding visiting at our hospitals.
“I welcome the steps being taken to review the current visiting policy which is being implemented centrally within the Department for Health.
“I appreciate that the current measures were necessary to ensure that the risks of the spread of COVID-19 were minimised however it is appropriate that these measures should now be adjusted.
“We must continue to keep patients safe whilst also ensuring that members of the public can be with their loved ones for support during significant moments in their lives.
“I have been advised that a decision will be made in the very near future.”
