LOCAL people are being encouraged to go cashless when paying for parking as off-street carparks across Derry and Strabane resume taking payments following a return to paid for parking.
Car parking charges had been suspended during the Coronavirus lockdown period, but the Department for Infrastructure re-introduced parking enforcement and on street parking charges from June 29.
Derry City and Strabane District Council reintroduced its off-street parking charges from Wednesday 01 July.
Motorists are reminded that while advisory notices only have been issued in the first week since the reintroduction, PCNs will commence from today, July 8th.
To make life easier for drivers, a special App is available to enable cashless payment, offering a safer way to pay for anyone concerned about handling cash or using payment machines.
Encouraging people to go cashless, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, said:
“The JustPark App offers a quick and convenient solution for people which avoids the need to carry loose change, and in keeping with the health guidelines around Covid-19 reduces the need to handle money at a time when many people would rather go contactless.
“The remote service also means drivers don’t have to rush back to the pay and display if they need to extend their parking time, and can avoid the risk of fixed penalty notices.
“It’s so easy to sign up and register and once you have downloaded you can pay and top up at the touch of a button.
“It’s a really user friendly App that makes things so much safer and more convenient for everyone who uses off street parking across the Council area.”
The 5* rated mobile App has been endorsed and supported by Council.
Once downloaded and registered, the public can pay for and manage their parking using a mobile phone, mobile app or online.
The changeover to the JustPark App from the previously used Parkmobile will benefit customers by reducing the cost of the transaction fee from 15 pence per parking session to eight pence.
Once registered you can pay for and manage your parking using mobile phone, mobile app or online at https://www.justpark.com/
If users don’t have a smartphone they can call 028 91248440 and pay using a mobile phone. Anyone who doesn’t have access to the App should please note that they can continue to pay by cash.
