These people were shielded as they were deemed at risk if they became infected with COVID-19.
They will be taking their first tentative steps outside in four months.
But the North’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride says everyone who has been shielding must remain vigilant.
“The risk of being infected by the virus has reduced but your underlying vulnerability to it still remains, Dr McBride says.
he says “cautions is still the order of the day”.
“This means minimising any risk as much as possible, and being aware that all contacts with the outside world must be managed really carefully”.
Shielders are being urged to avoid touching their face, wash their hands regularly and maintain social distancing.
Dr McBride says they should also avoid touching surfaces unnecessarily.
He is asking people who haven’t been shielding to support those who have.
“Please be considerate and give them the space and time they need,” he says.
“Wearing a face covering in shops and other enclosed spaces is a really important way we can keep each other safe.
“We spread the virus – so watch your distance, wash your hands, wear a face covering – please don’t share or spread,” Dr McBride says.
