SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has said that the Coronavirus is very much still with us and urged communities to proceed with caution in the days and weeks ahead, as the number of confirmed cases have risen significantly.
There were 41 new cases across the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours, with one positive result in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
There have been 29 deaths within the council boundary since the pandemice erupted in March.
Said the Foyle MP: “I am deeply concerned about the rise in positive COVID-19 cases and the increase in infection rate in recent days.
“This should underscore the need to remain vigilant.
“We should be under no illusion that the virus is still with us and we must be cautious.
“Let us not fall into the trap of thinking that this pandemic is at an end.
“It is too dangerous and there is too much at stake.
“We need to be patient and vigilant, listen to the experts, follow the public health guidance and proceed with caution.
“We all recognise that we are in extraordinary times, but we must also realise we are not past the finish line yet.
“I am urging people to continue to social distance, wash your hands and wear a face covering.
“We can get through this but only if we work together.”
