The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for a spell of potentially very wet and windy weather affecting the North of Ireland on Thursday.
“A spell of strong southerly winds are expected to develop across Northern Ireland during the early hours,” says a Met Office statement.
“Although there is some uncertainty in the track of the low, gusts of 65 mph are possible inland, with 70 mph or more possible around coasts and hills.
“Whilst winds may temporarily ease during Thursday morning, a band of heavy rain is likely to move east during Thursday afternoon and evening accompanied by some locally squally winds.
“Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.
“Some roads and bridges may close.
“Fallen trees may be an additional hazard.
“There is a chance that power cuts may occur.”
The warning comes into effect from 8 pm on Wednesday, August 19 and is valid until midnight Thursday, August 20.
