The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) say the drainage, kerbing and base course surfacing work will be carried out under lane closures.
A DfI spokesperson said: “A full road closure will be required to enable the final surfacing course to be laid, details of which will be advised at a later date.
“The scheme will start near the Water Street junction and progress northwards towards Harbour Square roundabout on both the northbound and southbound carriageways for a distance of approximately 470 metres.
“The works will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the road.
“The work is subject to favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
“Road users should expect some delays and additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
“All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.”
