The contract will last approximately 12 months and tenants will be notified by letter when their properties are to be completed.
Said the Foyle MLA: “This will be welcome news for many Creggan NIHE tenants, many of whom contacted my office with concerns about the poor conditions of existing windows in recent years.
“The need for such a scheme has been glaringly apparent with many windows in these homes losing a great deal of heat and experiencing rot.
“I have pushed for this essential replacement scheme which was due to begin in early Spring 2020 and further delayed as a result of Covid but I’m glad the Housing Executive have finally confirmed that work will commence in the coming weeks.
“Areas included in the Creggan window replacement scheme are as follows: Aranmore Avenue, Balbane Pass, Benevenagh Gardens, Circular Road, Creggan Heights, Cromore Gardens, High Park, Iniscarn Road, Inveroe Gardens, Linsfort Drive, Ramore Garden and Rinmore Drive.
“Providing effective, quality windows is crucial for keeping homes warm and critical for areas like Creggan where levels of fuel-poverty are high.”
Mr Durkan added: “I have been advised that the Rosemount area are also included in a window replacement scheme scheduled for 2021.
“I will be in contact with the Housing Executive going forward and will be able to advise tenants on further details closer to the time.”
