MACMILLAN Move More NI have come up with an innovative way to host this year’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event with a Drive-Thru version at the Foyle Arena this Friday, September 25 (10.30 am – 12.30 pm).
The Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event and has raised thousands of pounds to help provide support to people living with a cancer diagnosis.
This year’s event will be hosted in the Foyle Arena Car Park where Move More participants and volunteers will be on hand to offer cars a wide selection of homemade cakes and refreshments.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, launched the initiative this week where he encouraged the public to attend.
“I’m looking forward to attending the Drive Thru event at the Foyle Arena this week which is a great way to support Macmillan during the current restrictions,” he said.
“I would encourage others to take a break out of their morning this Friday and take a drive up to the Foyle Arena to attend.
“Macmillan play a key role in offering support and guidance to individuals and families affected by cancer and this is an ideal way to help them continue that important work.”
Move More Co-ordinator at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Sean Hargan, thanked the Foyle Arena for helping accommodate the event.
“The current restrictions mean it was impossible to host this year’s event indoors so we are delighted to be able to take over a section of the car park at the Foyle Arena where people can drive in, get their refreshments, make a donation and enjoy their coffee in the safety of their car,” he said.
“The Move More participants worked on their own programmes during lockdown but they missed the face to face contact with others and have enjoyed being able to return to walking and cycling groups outdoors in recent weeks.
“We are still taking referrals for the programme which can come through your GP or you can self refer by making contact with myself.”
