SINN Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has said that the relocation of the Visitor Information Centre to Waterloo Place will catalyse the regeneration of the Waterloo Place and William Street areas.
Its new location at the gateway to the Bogside will also enhance visits by those interested in our recent political history:
Councillor Cooper said: “The Waterloo Place area has seen major recent improvements since the 2013 public realm scheme and one way traffic system.
“This has been complimented by the refurbishment of historic buildings in Waterloo Street which are now being occupied by new businesses.
“Similarly we are seeing a similar transformation on the Strand Road with a number of new restaurants and food outlets.
“The relocation of the Visitor Information Centre to Waterloo Place will further increase footfall and visitor spend in this area of the city centre.
“Its strategic location will also encourage more visitors to explore both the city walls and the Bogside which will benefit local attractions including the Museum of Free Derry.
“From my own experience I know it has taken a number of years to get to this point so I am delighted that the project has now come to fruition.”
