Said the Foyle MLA: “I am honoured to have been re-elected as Chair of the APG on Mental Health.
“I have long advocated for greater emphasis on and investment in mental health services here.
“I’m aware that is needed now more than ever as we navigate the months ahead.
“We have come quite some way in addressing the stigma surrounding mental health but there is undoubtedly work to be done to ensure that adequate and effective mental health provision is in place.
“The Executive must also remain steadfast in their commitment to improving mental health services across the North. That means seeking alternative models of care, to ensure people can access help when they need it, rather than left struggling on ever-increasing waiting lists.
“There are of course many dedicated people and organisations, like Derry’s Crisis Community Intervention Service, working hard every day to help people, to change lives and to save lives.
“Long-term investment must be directed toward these vital services to maintain and sustain them, so long as they are needed.”
He added: “I will do my utmost to continue fighting for improvements to provide a brighter, supported future for people at their most vulnerable.”
