THE Department of Health has confirmed that a record 424 people have tested positive in the last 24 hours in the North of Ireland from Coronavirus.
That is a rise of 104 on Monday’s statistics issued by the Department yesterday on its dashboard.
And 139 of those were in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
The council Derry has had an infection rate of 323 per 100,000 in the last seven days.
There has been one further deaths and the Department’s total, which is mostly in hospitals, is now at 579 – over 300 less tham those recorded by Nisra.
Over the last seven days a total of 1,950 people in the North of Ireland have test positive for COVID-19 – a rise of 248. That is an average of just 248.5 per day.
In the last seven days, 490 people in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area have tested positive for Coronavirus – the highest of any council area in the North of Ireland.
In the last 24 hours, 182 people have tested positive within the council’s boundary, the second highest after Belfast.
That puts the council’s total for positive cases from COVID-19 at 1,010 since the pandemic erupted here in March.
The council’s death toll since March remains at 29.
According to the latest statistics, a total of 11,693 people have now tested positive in the North of Ireland to the deadly virus.
A total of 67 people are currently in hospitals here with a positive COVID-19 test, with 10 people on ventilators in intensive care.
There are currently 25 active Coronavirus cases in care homes here with 207 closed COVID-19 care home outbreaks.
